Questions and Answers
What is Dermylex™
Dermylex™ is a protein complex derived from dairy which naturally relieves mild to moderate psoriasis because of, among other factors, its high content in growth factors (mainly TGF-β). The filtration and extraction processes used in the preparation of Dermylex™ (XP-828L) are unique and patented. Dermylex™ bioactive properties are supported by solid clinical studies and scientific research. No chemical agents are added to Dermylex™ in the process.
Is Dermylex™ approved by Health Canada?
Yes. The Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) has issued Advitech a Natural Product Number (NPN) for Dermylex.
How does Dermylex™ work?
Like most complex bioactive products, the mechanisms of action are actually not fully characterized. According to scientific data, Dermylex™ seems to work by modulating the immune system and by decreasing the inflammatory response.
How long does a typical treatment last? At which dose?
Normally, it lasts from 2 to 4 months with a 2 caplet a day dosage and potentially for life, depending of the psoriasis cycle of the patient. A double dose has not shown results statistically better in the double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study.
How long should the patients take Dermylex™?
It is important to underline that psoriasis is a chronic disease and, while we have no long term data on its use in controlled trials, we have had case reports of patients who stopped using Dermylex™ caplets after significant improvement in their psoriasis and who experienced shortly afterwards new flares. These patients, from our information, went back to take Dermylex™ tablets following the recommended directions or less with positive results. We have a long-term follow-up program for patients and, if you are interested to participate, do not hesitate to contact us at info@advitech.com.
The treatment monitored during our clinical studies was on 4 months. If, after this time, the patient does not have residual psoriasis signs, he can interrupt, if he judges it necessary, its intake of Dermylex™ until a new flare occurs. It is at its own risks, since we got cases reported of psoriasis flares after stopping Dermylex™ use. For the moment, we do not have sufficient clinical data on treatment interruption and its restart, except for case reports that only represent a fraction of users. We therefore cannot draw scientifically supported conclusions or recommendations on this subject. As each case of psoriasis can be very different, consulting in person a healthcare professional is recommended before stopping to take Dermylex™.
Where does Dermylex™ come from?
Dermylex™ is extracted from whey, a cheese production by-product: approximately 200 L of milk are necessary to obtain a gram (1 g) of XP-828L (Dermylex™) by a patented isolation, concentration and extraction process of bioactive principles developed in Canada (UniversitÈ Laval) and in France.
Can lactose-intolerant people take Dermylex™ ?
Dermylex™ contains a small amount of residual lactose (less than 0.05%). Any person who is lactose-intolerant should mention it to its family physician, dermatologist or pharmacist before considering using Dermylex™.
Why not buy already available dairy-based products rather than Dermylex™ ?
Only the patented specific concentration and combination of bioactive proteins contained in Dermylex™ are actually clinically proven to be effective on psoriasis. Other dairy products do not have the same composition, the same clinical support and, thus, the same biological activities.
Since Dermylex™ is produced from dairy raw materials, should we be concerned about mad cow disease?
No! Mad cow disease, or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), is transmitted by eating contaminated beef or specific organs. Milk does not transmit BSE. Cattle used in obtaining the milk used for the preparation of Dermylex™, are certified BSE-free by veterinarians.
I suffer from severe psoriasis. Is Dermylex™ also efficient in my case?
The clinical studies on XP-828L (the clinical name of Dermylex™) were realized with mild to moderate psoriasis patients. We therefore cannot extrapolate results for severe psoriasis from these studies. On the other hand, a lot of cases were reported from patients suffering from severe psoriasis: they reported an improvement in their condition following the use of Dermylex™ (see Testimonials section). Both clinical trials on XP-828L (pre-commercial name for Dermylex™) ¸involved patients suffering from plaques. We have no information related to psoriasis on nails, although nothing can prove that Dermylex™ could not be efficient in that case. Please remember that the Dermylex™ results are usually notable during the 2nd month of treatment (between 28 and 56 days)
Would Dermylex™ be as efficient for other skin problems like eczema or atopic dermatitis, or for other immune mediated inflammatory disorders like Crohnís disease or Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD)?
Scientific data on the mechanism of action of Dermylex™ makes us believe so, but the clinical studies on XP-828L (the clinical name of Dermylex™) were realized with mild to moderate psoriasis patients. Advitech is currently working on different research programs in order to assess the potential of the platform on other applications related to immune mediated inflammatory disorders, but they are still at the preclinical level. There is thus not enough clinical data to recommend taking or not taking Dermylex™ for eczema or IBD conditions. Although its only contraindication is allergies to dairy products, the clinical trials have demonstrated that Dermylex™ is a secure and safe natural health product. Please refer to our preliminary tests results on the animal (eczema) model in our press releases. It is unfortunately too early to be able to suggest Dermylex™ for eczema. A clinical study targeting the atopic dermatitis (eczema) is scheduled on a product from Advitechís platform XP-828L.
My young daughter has psoriasis around her eyes and on her scalp. She is presently alternating 2 different kinds of creams. Can she use Dermylex™ at her age? If so, should we stop the creams or is it compatible?
Unfortunately, at this point, we have no experience with cases reported concerning children. Both of our clinical trials involved adults for whom the dosage was calculated in regards to their adult weight, therefore it is not possible for us to officially recommend it for children. We believe that consulting your doctor would be the best secure and wise thing to do. Note that Dermylex™ can be used together with creams.
I suffer from psoriasis on my nails and I wonder if Dermylex™ is also efficient in that case?
Both clinical trials on XP-828L (pre-commercial name for Dermylex™) ¸involved patients suffering from plaques. We have no information related to psoriasis on nails, although nothing can prove that Dermylex™ could not be efficient in that case. Please remember that the Dermylex™ results are usually notable during the 2nd month of treatment (between 28 and 56 days)
I would like to know if Dermylex™ is good for psoriasis on scalp.
In the clinical studies completed until today, patients were authorized to use a medicated shampoo for their psoriasis on their scalp. We are not able to advance that Dermylex™ could or could not be efficient on that specific region, however, the results of the last placebo study seems to indicate that patients using Dermylex™ have observed, within time, a reduction of the itching.
I suffer from psoriasis and I would like to try your product but I am presently breast-feeding. Is it possible for me to take Dermylex™?
Dermylex™ has not been tested on pregnant or breast-feeding woman during our clinical trials, and even if the Dermylex™ basis are on maternal feeding, and that patients using Dermylex™ were no more affected by side effects than patients using the placebo, we are not sufficiently informed to forward advices in this matter. As per all products with bioactive effects, from pharmaceutical medication to natural health products, caution and consulting your doctor are always recommended. Please remember that the Dermylex™ results are usually notable during the 2nd month of treatment (between 28 and 56 days)
I have problems with my blood platelets, which are too high. Can I still use Dermylex™?
No effects of the XP-828L (pre-commercial name for Dermylex™) were observed on blood platelets, while blood controls were realized together with the observation on the dermatologic results.
Can I use Dermylex™ if I suffer from Diabetes Type 2, along with hypertension?
To our knowledge, the use of Dermylex™ is not contraindicated for these conditions. Nevertheless, patients suffering from diabetes were excluded from the study in order to have a comparable cohort; therefore it is not possible for us to recommend it specifically to patients suffering from diabetes. Dermylex™ is a very safe natural health product and its only contraindication is addressed to people suffering from dairy product allergies.
Are there any contraindications to use Dermylex™ ? I am 50 years old and suffer from respiratory problems.
We do not have specific experience with patients suffering from respiratory problems, although we do not anticipate any problems with the use of Dermylex™ . Its principal application is exactly for mild-to-moderate psoriasis. However, please do not use Dermylex™ if you are allergic to dairy products.
I have other questions about Dermylex™, who can I contact?
