Eczema / atopic dermatitis
Background
Atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as atopic eczema, is an atopic, hereditary, and non-contagious skin disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the skin. AD is characterized by pruritus, dry skin, and excoriation, which may be localized to a few patches or involve large portions of the body.
Recent research, such as presented in a psoriasis symposium at the 2008 American Academy of Dermatology annual meeting, reveals increasing similarities between inflammatory mechanisms of eczema and psoriasis.

Product
Advitech produced preliminary results with XP-312 for Atopic Dermatitis, a third potential application derived from its main XP-828L platform. XP-312 is a whey protein extract isolated from bovine whey. The activity profile of XP-312 is related to the presence of bioactive whey proteins and/or peptides in the extract, in particular, growth factors such as the Insulin-Growth Factor (IGF), but mainly the Transforming Growth Factor-Beta2 (TGF-β2).
